Fall out boy following? (NOT a troll thread)

So I was under the impression that nobody liked FoB. I personally can't stand them, the vocals are awful, the musicianship sucks, don't like their image etc.

But I recently had a FB friend post something about them, and I jokingly made a negative comment about them, and then I had a couple people jump down my throat about it.

In ALL HONESTY (not trolling): I thought their audience was prepubescent girls, goth punk whatever, and a handful of guys. The kids that got on to me in no way shape or form fit that description.

So was it a coincidence or is their fanbase a lot larger and diverse than I had previously thought?

Please no "pete wentz sucks balls" comments.

Of course it is, there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be.

I like Fall Out Boy quite a bit and I'm neither prepubescent, a girl, or "goth". They're catchy. I dig it.

I have two of their records. Good pop songwriters.

A lot of people like their early stuff, it's passable. Personally I think it's trash but that's neither here nor there...

I didn't like their singer's vocal style at first, but I learned to enjoy it a lot later. I could say the same thing about Geddy Lee.

Pete Wentz, I don't care for him much based on his attitude, but overall I like most of the stuff I've heard them play.

They play honest pop. Not my cup of tea but there is reason to dislike them and they are undoubtly successful with all ages.

I don't listen to them to be musically enlightened, I listen when it comes on the radio because it's catchy and sounds good. I don't need any other reason.

They're alright for a pop group I guess. Not my bag though.

Their a national act ... their fanbase probably covers a few key demographics. Otherwise nobody would have invested time and money into marketing them or was it the marketing that got them to span across several demographics.

i just don't see a band at their level surviving on just that teenie bopper demographic ...

My son was a big FOB fan for a while around the ages of 13-14. I took him to see them along with Panic at the Disco for his 14th birthday. I actually enjoyed a lot of FOB's music and I'm in my mid 40's. He doesn't listen to them nearly as much now (he will be 16 next week) but every once in a while he will play one of their songs on his iphone. I think Patrick Stump has a very good voice, although his pronunciation is at times less than perfect.

I liked the last few FOB albums, not so much the Chicago punk stuff of the early 2000s. Folie A Deux was an expertly written album that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. It's one of those albums that never gets old.

I could care less what bass players think about Pete Wentz. I gave up trying to influence popular opinion in 1992.

as the lead singer of the gallows said in an interview, "Don't worry, all of those bands can have pre teen goth fans, when they finally grow up they'll be Gallow's fans."

Hahah. something like that. but i guess some people stick with them, for some reason!

So all you fans, is it only the music you like? Or do you like the image as well?

I thought about it some, and I decided I didn't like them cause their self-applied musical genre: Punk.

To me punk was/is always the older 70s stuff of course, but what comes to my mind when I think punk is stuff like Rancid, Social Distortion, pre-"warning" Greenday, "dude ranch"-era Blink 182, Sublime, etc etc
