So I wanted to invite the TB community to celebrate women for talent without bringing looks into it.
For the record, I think all people are beautiful, only we aren't all capable of perceiving everybody's beauty. I'm not asking with the idea that any of these women are UNattractive, only that being attractive isn't a factor in our liking them.

I wouldn't generally reply to such queries - as I will always be far less attractive than either of them, but given an excuse to promote some music I really enjoy was too much of an opportunity to pass on | Oh yeah, Mia Zapata was amazing. The documentary on her death and the story of The Gits is heartbreaking.

Still, the thread seems to have evolved into one about great female vocalists, regardless of what they look like. So it's a good thread.
I'll put in a vote for Chrissy Amphlett from the Divinyls - she's actually one of the most sensual women I've ever seen on stage (or met personally), but she's certainly no model. Some women just exude sexuality no matter what they look like. She's been one of the greats in Australia for decades, a fantastic singer, and it's a shame the Divinyls didn't gain more international success. |

Re: The Wilson Sisters from a previous post...I met Ann and Nancy a couple of times during my radio days. Even at 10am, after a long night of rock and roll, without makeup, still in their sweats and fuzzy house shoes, those women can render a man speechless.

While not traditionally "attractive", they definitely have IT that makes them stars. |

Same with Pat Benatar.
What about Joan Baez? What an amazing voice.
Joni Mitchell? One of the most technically proficient singers ever. On the other side of the spectrum, Karen Carpenter. The most emotionally striking singer I can think of.
The Runaways may have been packaged as sexy, but I still think their sound was true vintage punk rock, with a nice nod to classic rock thrown in, and both Joan Jett and Lita Ford proved they had what it took to do the big stage for a long time.
But the queen of them all, for me, is Janis. She was channeling something from another world, and still gives me goosebumps.

| | | | When I saw the title of this thread, Adele immediately came to mind and based on some of the other replies on here, it appears that I wasn't the only one who thought of her (something of which I am very glad).
Adele is a really great singer and she is very pretty (even without makeup), but people who have been spoiled by the likes of Lady Gaga and Beyonce are always taking issue with her weight. To quote her, "I don't make music for the eyes, I make music for the ears."
