Favorite Scales to use

Playing mostly blues and jazz and rock, I of course favor the minor penatonic and blues scale heavily. But I love the sound of the lydian and pure minor. I suppose those are modes technically though. It's tough to throw them into rock, but can make some cool stuff when you do.

One of guitarists can freackin work a harmonic minor scale like nothing, I play spanish sounding stuff underneath, but that scale is cookin'!

Whatever fits the chord changes.

But I've said this somewhere else, it's more about chord tones, available tensions, and passing tones for me. That's how I think of soloing, rather than scales.

No one has preferance for the sound of a scale? If you were to write a piece and wanted a sound you really liked, there isn't a scale that really appealed to your ears?

I'm not being weird am I?
