+1. When I saw the thread title, the first thing that popped into my mind was, "The first 7 Moody Blues albums". Started perusing the thread quickly to see if anybody else mentioned them. Didn't take long. Page 2...

A good "***!?" album cover is Atomic Rooster's 1970 self-titled (Actually, "Atomic Roooster," with three "o's.") album. I won't post it here, because it contains nudity.

Obviously, Orion's masks are real but his hair? Doubt it!

Geeezzzzsss, JimmyM! A hip guy guy like yourself with awesome vintage bass tube amps and the best/worst vinyl cheese schlock record collection ever?

Fantastic anti-cool album art! Thanks for sharing! (How about sliding them gold vinyls out and showing 'em to us.)

I love this for it's simplicity compared to other covers of the time.

OK, I realize not everyone has heard of Heino and Orion, so let me go a little more mainstream with the awesome album covers:

And of course, how does it get any better than this?

We need a little more Rush.

OK, the last one was a CD, but it's still Rush art!

Guided By Voices - Propeller

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propeller_(album)

A limited original release of 500, each with it's own unique handmade cover art. Here's a gallery of some known ones.

One signed copy sold several years ago for $ 6200.00 USD on ebay. Among fans, it gives some serious cred/bragging rights to those who have one, since it's usually proof they were really around in the early days (or they have plenty of disposable income). And it's a great record too.

"London Calling" is probably the very best punk album ever done, and it's not even truly punk. It's reggae, it's rock and roll, it's ska, it's well, punk. All in one record, and executed perfectly by a band that wasn't TRYING to sound punk; they were seriously just guys who sounded like that, trying their best to play the music they were inspired to play.

I just can't say enough good things about that album, whether it's the cover art, lyrics, production, or anything else.
London Calling is the greatest rock album ever. It just is.

I like the cover of Face The Music by Electric Light Orchestra. The way the artwork ties in the band's name as well as the albums name while adding a bit of whimsy.

This isn't an album but it was 12 inch vinyl. The artwork captures the song inside extremely well. The song BTW is fantastic. An ode to speed.
