This one is an obvious Planet of the Apes reference, which makes it even more kickass.

| | | | How many of you have bought albums solely based on the cool album cover art or photos without hearing the music beforehand? I have done that many times. Quite a few times, I would be very pleasantly surprised at the what the music was. The first Boston album was a prime example of that. I walked into a record store, saw the album artwork, bought the album without knowing who Boston was or what they played, took it home and was amazed. |

I am really enjoying Budgie. They totally rock!
How I never heard of them in all these years is beyond me. Great band!

How I never heard of them in all these years is beyond me. Great band! | I stumbled upon them on youtube a couple of years ago. My favorite album of theirs is Never Turn Your Back on a Friend, with Tony Bourge on guitar.
The band is still around, BTW, bassist/singer Burke Shelley is the only remaining original member, and Craig Goldie, who played with Dio in the 80s, is on guitar now. Burke almost died two years ago from an anuerism but according to wiki he's back up and running. His P-bass tone is the perfect P-bass tone to me. I hope to catch them if they tour here some day.

I walked into a record store, saw the album artwork, bought the album without knowing who Boston was or what they played, took it home and was amazed. | that was definitely part of the appeal for me too. getting the album home and going through the liner notes and everything while you gave it its first listen part of the experience. we definitely lost something between then and now. first it was cassettes; you'd just rip off the shrinkwrap and shove the tape into your car player on the drive home. half the time, cassettes didn't even have any credits, just a cover picture and the band name on the side. CD's tried to have artwork at first, but those stupid cardboard packages just got thrown away for the most part, then they just became glorified cassettes. now we just download stuff. music has become too disposable. |

Also, there was a group called Bow Wow Wow back in the 80s that had an album cover with a nude woman sitting down near a river or creek. No female body parts can be seen but several years after that album came out, it was learned that Annabella Lwin was only 14 years old in that photo.
The "censor police" tried to around up all copies still being sold at stores.
IMO, in some ways, thinking and attitudes are more conservative and restrictive than ever before.

An excellent example of album cover art!
I don't know how to post large photos.

| | | | To Repoman, I do own the original Diamond Dogs LP in mint condition. Only played the album once or twice.
One of my all time favorite covers, Fotomaker's first album. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

It was shocking but intriguing and scary but cool in a wierd way.
