Favourite song lyric

Sign in to disble this ad
I did a quick search and didn't find anything like it... I might be completely inept though ;P

What's your favourite song lyric? Not the full song... just a single line / sentance that actually means something to you.

Mine, for a long time, was from Graceland by Paul Simon:

"And she said 'Loosing love is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you're blown apart. Everybody sees the wind blow.'"

Now, it's got to be from Audioslave's - Be Yourself:

"Someone swears it's true love until the end of time, and then runs away."

Hmm... I just realised they're both about ends of relationships / falling out of love... what does that say about me?! :P

I find Pig Destroyer lyrics to be really beautiful.

Cheerleader Corpes:
"Semen tastes like gunmetal she said smiling,"

Junkyard God:
"Here is a boy with paper skin who longs to touch the girl of broken glass.
She loves it when he wears his skin like that.
In tatters."

from Satyricon; Immortality Passion

I am winter when you freeze
I am the hammer and you are the anvil

from Satyricon; With Ravenous hunger

It will gradually tear you apart
It will eat you from inside
No longer sweet revenge
No longer emotional triumph
Pity you, led to believe (in own willpower)
Pity you, (resting) on withered laurels
Can't you see, the world's on fire...
Can't you feel, you're getting burnt!

About a third of a Jana Stanfield song called "I'm not lost. I'm exploring."

Some people live their lives on quiet avenues
While others find a place in the parade
Some like me are seekers. We take less traveled roads
Believing we can find a better way
And though I get discouraged I won't be turning back
I have joy as my compass, and faith is my map

I'm not lost, I'm exploring
Life is an adventure worth enjoying
Though I may not know where I'm going
I am not lost. I'm exploring

Given the political angst in recent times and divisive lines between right wing and left wing journalism, the line that rings out the most is from Simon & Garfunkel in The Boxer:

"A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest."

From The Men they Couldn't Hang's song Company Town:

"Some people say that they're lucky in their birth; whose nationality bequeaths them pride;
But those who own the earth are still tethering their serfs with company allegiance fully tied".

"Burn One Down" by Ben Harper

"My choice is what I choose to do,
And if I'm causin' no harm, it shouldn't bother you.
Your choice is who you choose to be,
And if you're causin' no harm, then you're alright with me.

If you don't like my fire, then don't come around,
'cause I'm gonna burn one down.
Yes, I'm gonna burn one down."

The Band - Makes no Difference

'These old love letters, well, I just can't keep, 'cuz like the gambler says, "Read 'em and weep"'

Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice

"When your rooster crows at the break of dawn, look out your window and I'll be gone. You're the reason I'm a travellin' on, but don't think twice, it's all right."

"It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal, like you never done before. And it aint no use and calling out my name, gal, I can't hear you anymore."

"I'm a thinkin' and a wonderin', walkin' down the road. I once loved a woman, a child I'm told. I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soul, but don't think twice, it's all right."

"Goodbye's too good a word, babe, so i'll just say, 'fare thee well.' I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind, you coulda done better, but I don't mind. You just kinda wasted my precious time, but don't think twice, it's all right."

My favourite right now is One More Minute by Weird Al.

I guess I might seem kinda bitter
You got me feeling down in the dump
'Cause I'm stranded all alone in the gas station of love
And I have to use the self-service pump

Why believe in things that make it tough on you?
