Twice I sat on my upstairs porch and watched the truck pull up, not get out of the truck and not deliver then post an excuse to tracking that the address was undeliverable or that I wasn't home. Each time I called UPS and worked my way up the chain of command and made the drive come back after hours.
With my first Dingwall Afterburner, UPS didn't ignore the 'signature required', they found a random person walking by to sign for the package, or someone down the street then left the huge box on my front porch, about 15 feet away from a busy urban street.
Since then, they've regularly ignored the 'signature required' statement on deliveries.
One recent delivery was listed as 'house abandoned/under construction' even though our house was neither abandoned, nor under construction and is actually well kept (including flower boxes outside with cascading flowers).
This doesn't even mention stuff that's come in damaged.
The problems I've had with FedEx = Zero.

| | | | I've found that fedex is more careful with my shipments. I have heard that unlike UPS drivers they have stricter accountability rules.
I know on one occasion when UPS was dropping off a cabinet I noticed and a rather large rip on the outside of the box and started to speak up they were quick to run back to their truck. The passenger/helper quickly said "Go, go, go." This happened in the span of 45 seconds. I believe I got, "Hey could you wait for a second, this could be dam....." out of my mouth before they were driving off.

I used to have problems with UPS ignoring the signature, dropping off the package without ringing the doorbell, not wrapping it in plastic when it's raining, dinging up the package, etc. I recently moved and of the 2 times I've had UPS deliver, I haven't had a problem.....yet. But I try to avoid them at all costs.
I live at a FedEx hub, so I prefer them over anyone else.

My favorite FedEx moment was watching the driver use his feet to roll a box out of the door of his truck and onto the sidewalk. The box contained a Fender Twin amp and was clearly labeled as "FRAGILE". Thankfully, the shipper did a good enough job packing the amp, and it was able to withstand the abuse. |

In fact right now, the UPS guy in my area is an acquaintance and makes sure to get the package into my apartment building (secure) even if I'm not there. The FedEx guy is a former kid I coached and taught in the early 2000s. I see him out and about once in awhile and make sure I always buy him a beer. He said just text him if I won't be home and he'll deliver any package to work (his former high school). Now that's good service!

Only because I've had the same experiences from all 3, UPS + USPS + FedEx. Witnessing the drivers abusing my packages, packages left out in the rain, packages left on OTHER PEOPLE'S porches (that was tough to find, as the neighbors were out of town on vacation and UPS insisted that the package "was left on the back porch and doorbell rang" even though I told them I don't HAVE a back porch), a giant Philips box holding a brand new receiver, speakers and sub left sitting on the sidewalk in front of my front door (in the city), getting a nice pristine perfect package and opening it to find that it was already boxed once and that box (and its contents) tore to shreds, but someone at the local office put the whole mess into another box and delivered it. Rantrantrantrantrant. Although honestly the worst out of them is USPS, ironic that we the taxpayers are the only people keeping them in business and paying their ridiculous fed salaries and pensions.

UPS really fudged up a beautiful Peavey Grind 5, which was supposed to be a Christmas gift.
You can't take this stuff personally, as I don't think they discriminate as to who they're screwing in the end.
After return trips to the house to get the damaged goods and paperwork, phone calls, insurance settlements and final auctions for the damaged items, the carriers just end up screwing themselves....until they raise their shipping charges.
Then guess who's getting screwed.
