FedEx won't insure for more than $1000?!

I just phoned up FedEx to get a quote on shipping costs for a $3000 bass. They told me they won't insure a musical instrument for more than $1000. I don't get it - I've shipped basses with them before fully insured for more than that. Does anyone have any experience with this? How should I go about getting my bass insured for the full amount? Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide.

Maybe contact some bass builders that sell $3k plus basses and ask them how they do it?

'Chances are they'll just deny a claim anyway, that's been my experience.

I vaguely remember this applying to acoustic instruments maybe? at any rate, they had some policy pertaining to insuring acoustic instruments that an employee once cited when refusing to insure a bass I was shipping--but I pulled up the policy and we read it together and it only pertained to acoustic instruments...this may be something entirely new and different, but wanted to share just in case

You know, I didn't specify that this was a solid-body electric (bass) guitar. It could very well be that the FedEx rep didn't know to check the details. Thanks for that!

Okay, I just called FedEx back and spoke with a different representative. Apparently, as long as the instrument isn't an antique (or something of the sort) it's fine to insure for over $1000. The woman I spoke with apologized for the previous rep not knowing what she was talking about and that was that. Thanks to everyone who posted responses here.
