Feeling bad about getting a bass as a gift?

So my parents might get me an Epiphone Thunderbird for Christmas this year, but it feels kind of weird to receive a bass as a gift for some reason, so I'm gonna pay for half of it throughout 2008 (I'm not allowed to get a job yet, so money isn't easy for me to get). Anyone else ever felt this way?

Nope though I have only had one bass and i payed for half. I still cannot get a job (they won't let me untill next year). My grandmother spoils me and gives me money for holiday's though i cannot use it in any way or form untill I'm 21.

I never ask for a bass as a gift due to GAS attacks and then getting asked where it went.

I got my son a bass for his birthday a few years ago. He was always playing one of my old ones, it was fragile, and he really wasn't sure he wanted be playing bass. I picked up one of the Dano Longhorn RIs for way cheap. He putzed with it for a while, then started using my wife's bass.

I feel bad that I got him a bass that's kinda cool, but that he doesn't like it.

Usually expensive things or things important to me I'd rather get myself. It would feel strange if it was just handed to me. I like working for my babies.
