Someon I knows birthday is comming up and I plan on getting them a couple CDs. I knew they really like Feist but I think a little variety would be good too. Anyone know any bands/musicians that sound similar to Leslie Feist? |

Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
We believe that you are in Canada (your IP address appears to be 70.74.32.79). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com
If you are a paid subscriber, please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com and we will issue a pro-rated refund to the credit card you used to sign up. If you have been using Pandora, we will keep a record of your existing stations and bookmarked artists and songs, so that when we are able to launch in your country, they will be waiting for you.
We will be notifying listeners as licensing agreements are established in individual countries. If you would like to be notified by email when Pandora is available in your country, please enter your email address below. The pace of global licensing is hard to predict, but we have the ultimate goal of being able to offer our service everywhere.
We share your disappointment and greatly appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Tim Westergren

As for Feist, she's part of an amalgam of groups in Canada, where members often intertwine and work on each other's stuff...like Broken Social Scene (highly recommended) and By Divine Right (she played guitar, iirc)
I'll think of some other stuff, but BSS is awesome. |

the Cranberries
Smoosh
Kim Taylor (who I like alot)
Feist (funny! I won't count this one)
Beth Orton (I can see it, I like her stuff too...not so "experimental" tho)
The Decemberists (who I LOVE. You should dig it too) |

Both real good folk groups that have blended traditional music with different genres |

| | | | Pandora is a rip off of last.fm
A lot of people that listen to Feist listen to Joanna Newsom as well, a bit different but still good. |

Coincidentally, I first heard Feist on a Serge Gainsbourg tribute CD. Might be a decent idea to check out some of the artists on the track listing or to just check out the tribute album altogether (or Serge's daughter who is great as well.) Quote:
* 01. A song for Sorry Angel performed by Franz Ferdinand & Jane Birkin.
* 02. I love you (me either) performed by Cat Power & Karen Elson. (A cover of Je t'aime... moi non plus).
* 03. I just came to tell you I'm going performed by Jarvis Cocker & Kid Loco.
* 04. Requiem for Anna performed by Portishead.
* 05. Requiem for a Jerk performed by Faultline, Brian Molko, & Françoise Hardy.
* 06. L'Hotel performed by Michael Stipe.
* 07. Au revoir Emmanuel performed by Tricky.
* 08. Lola R. for ever performed by Marianne Faithfull & Sly and Robbie.
* 09. Boomerang 2005 performed by Gonzales , Feist & Dani.
* 10. Boy Toy performed by Marc Almond and Trash Palace.
* 11. The Ballad of Melody Nelson performed by Placebo.
* 12. Just a man with a job performed by The Rakes.
* 13. Call it Art performed by The Kills.
* 14. Those little things performed by Carla Bruni.
| Edit: Track number 2: "I love you (me either)" is entirely orgasmic. I mean that in uh... multiple ways. Just don't listen to it in the middle of a long tour on the road without any female action. You'll scare everyone in the band.

Lydia's Address
Bradley Hathaway (a little weirder, way more poetic)
Dustin Kensrue (singer from thrice's acoustic solo project AMAZING)
Jeff Caylor
Jeremy Enigk
Steven Delopoulos
You might be able to find the Dustin Kensrue cd at HMV, all the other ones are quite rare and you might not even be able to find them on amazon or something like that. Most are limited indie releases and Lydia's Address was a self released cd with less than 500 made, but I think you can download it off of their myspace.
