hey all, how do u all feel about having a female singer front your band?
i posted a classifieds ad on craigslist looking for a hard rock singer and this girl answered the ad, and im down cuz u dont get many hard rock female singers, the last two i can think of is evanescense and lacuna coil, and i dont even think they are actual hard rock heh.
but the a band mate of mine from a different band then this one says he wouldnt ever want a female fronted band because he thinks people would just show up to check out the singer and not pay attention to the music lol.
how about you guys?

| | | | Chick in the band I personally do not like female rock singers, but for a performing band, a good looking girl that can sing sure can bring the guys.I saw Les Paul in New York and he had this young babe bass player who was a great singer and bassist. It sure made the show a lot better for me. There is no "I" in team.
The only downside is if someone in the band ends up "hooking up" with her. Then it's a nightmare.

I don't understand all this "girl in a band" phobia -- it'd be a welcome change from the sausage fest that is your average hard rock band.
Sorry guys, I guess I just don't believe in cooties.

and yea serously, there are way too many sausages on stage when i go to concerts lol.
she has a really nice voice, i might even ask her to sing in the tool cover band im thinking of puting together
she plays piano too, and can play and sing at the same time wich is bad ass, the guitarist plays piano too so we can now get a piano/keyboard/synth on stage now, yay for us

If people turn up to check out the singer then at least you get to play to them - even if they don't pay attention to the music, they make the place look busy, and at least they do hear the music - if they hand't turned up they wouldn't have got to hear you anyway.
Most bands' job is to sell beer. The guy paying you isn't going to care why they punters turn up. A female fronted band is way easier to sell (guys like it for obvious reasons, and girls like to see a woman up their they can identify), so if she can sing its a win all round...

Ian | your absolutely right, and those packed bars/clubs being caught on video tape would be a great demo reel for record labels. Quote:

The only problems I've had are with male guitarists with egos. |

| | | | I used to but I am not stressing it anymore.
There will be chicks that go to the gig to check out the guys in the band and vice-versa.
I say go for what sounds best. My new project is going to need about three vocalists, two males and a female. |

It opens up another world of material. It's great for booking; club owners know that a reasonably attractive girl who can sing well keeps people in the club (men and women).
If you're playing material that is almopst exclusively male-dominated, one of the best things to do would be to have a good female singer. It differentiates your group from everyone else and opens up possiblities of new fans. Because there are not many hard-rock bands with female lead singers, it is the reason to do it.

And as was mentioned here before, the problems will start 10 fold if she hooks up with a member of the band or the other way round....dont dip you pen in the company ink goes for a band too.....

Sorry guys, I guess I just don't believe in cooties. | HA HA HA HA HA!! Best post of the day.
It's a bit limiting, forget about playing "Mmm-Mmm-Mmm-Mmm". With a girl singer you can play a lot of songs that nobody else can play. |
