Fender Cases S**k

Sign in to disble this ad
They're flimsy, had to hotglue the velvet back in place in my jazz case, and the whole foam assemly shifts inside the case. Also the the top doesn't close nicely with the bottom. My buddy bought a strat and had the same complaints. Got to upgrade my case......I'm just saying for the price of these things (and I do love their basses) their cases leave alot to be desired........

No complaints at all with the Fender/SKB case that came with my 2008 MIA. For the price ($99) it is the best case I've seen.

Ive been a Fender guitarist for 20 years, just switched to bass recently to find that their bass cases suck just as bad as their guitar cases... At least the molded plastic hardcases....horrible

I think this has to do more with the carelessness of a 13 year old than the case itself...

I bought my 13 year old son a brand new Fender tolex case for his Mustang bass about 6 months ago (it made me nervous watching him transport his bass around in a gig bag).

The Mustang bass requires a "special" case and they are outrageously expensive for what you get....it doesn't even have a storage pocket or anything in the case.

Anyway, my son has already bent one of the spring latches to the point where it barely works and the case itself it looks like it's already been on tour.

I carried my old '72 P-bass around in one of the old orange velvet lined tolex cases for 30 years with absolutely no issues. Those old cases were heavy, but they protected your bass. I've never like the molded cases because it seemed like they bent and/or dented with little to no effort.

Maybe I'll get him one of the anvil roadcases...then I'll just have to worry about the furniture.

The molded Fender cases are notorious for their "suckiness factor". The ones that come with the AV Reissues (G&G) are great. I also like the newer ones that come with the '08 basses, although a lot of folks hate them because of their bulkiness.

But yeah, the molded ones rarely seem to line up right when you want to close them. You have to mess with them a bit. I also never liked the fact that there wasn't much extra space inside for extras.

The newer cases that come with Fender guitars, I think they are SKB but not sure, are very nice. I agree that the older Fender molded cases are flimsy.

Don't care for the 2008 one that came with my AS Jazz -- which I don't care for that much, either.

Rather to my amazement, that cheap-looking flapless storage bin doesn't leak stuff out all over the case like I thought it would, though. I put about fifty picks in it and shook the livin' daylights out of the case until I was tired, then put the case back down and opened it up -- not a single pick got loose.
