Fender Dixon ATA Bass Case, Any Info or Thoughts?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was looking at these on musiciansfriend and was thinking about getting one. they seem sturdier since they are military grade metal. sturdier than the standard ATA flight cases that are 5mm plywood. but this case is about $150 more than the standard bass flight case, is it worth it?

anyway use or see one of these? thoughts? help?

If I'm going to be dropping that kind of cash, it's going to have recessed hardware. No question about it.

I've seen SM hardware torn off "ATA" cases.

Recessed HW is the only way to Fly!

Here is where I got mine. I have used it for ~40 flights. It is still fine, but heavy.

Oh, and it fits my Jazz, P-bass, Lakland 55-01 and 44-01 (n.b., not all at once ).
I'm not claiming to like ATA cases, but I think this one gets the job done.

yeah but the recessed HW only has 1/4" plywood. that crap will break like nothing. the fender cases are aluminum and military grade. i know the wood ATA cases might be lighter, but im thinking the Dixon cases will be sturdier and better protecting.

I must argue this. Plywood is one of the sturdiest things out there. I work in a lumberyard and can attest that 1/4" plywood is quite strong. Depends on grade of plywood, but the glue they use and the varied grain direction really provide for uncanny strength for the size and weight.

I'll stick to my wood, thank you.
