Fender Factory Mexico tour, good read!

I don't know if this has been posted but it is a good read. It seems a little pro marketing tool to me for some reason though.

At the time of the "tour" Fender made the necks for MIM basses in the US and shipped them to the Mexico plant for finishing.

very interesting read. It does seem a bit odd that the management let him in and let him take pictures and walk around freely. Either way, its good to see where my MIM was made, even though they dont show the bass section

Would love to watch them build guitars/basses.

Problem is, I'd want to spend time in every station. One can't simply walk by and not want gawk for many minutes or more.

Of course finishing is outside of our borders. There are good economic reasons for that.

Well, I imagine they have more flexibility on the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Mexico, though that of course raises concerns about worker safety.

My MIM I got in 2000 and it still is my main player. I upgraded the pickups and the bridge but other than that it's a machine. I have gotten rid of USA Fenders, USA Music Man basses, and plethora of other basses that didn't sound as good as this one.

The way the people are dressed there leads to me to believe it's pretty chilly in that place.

I am really glad I got to see the thread. Does Fender still ship necks from the states to the plant in Mexico for finishing? Does this mean that if I get a MIM FSR bass that the neck was MIA? Cheers.

In China you would have more flexibility as to chemicals used and easier to control labor. Mind you though, this is changing and soon China will be paralyzed with litigating and useless workforce like the rest of the world on their quick road to becoming a modern society.

Who knows, maybe the future's MIM will be Made In Mars as stuff goes off planet.
