| My guess would be that they are fake (ends of the case, that is). A trip to the store and a quick sniff would tell you for sure.
I spent a good number of years avoiding animal products. I found that when I bought a leather substitute I was always unhappy with the quality, and when I bought something of quality that had nothing to do with leather (fully textile, etc) I was never disappointed. It bothered me, too, to own things that looked like leather, as one man's abstention won't save a lot of cows but his actions can win a lot of minds. I still support vegan options when I can, but often I find that there sadly is no good substitute for leather where durability is concerned. End panels for guitar cases and guitar straps are two things I think where leather's durability isn't a requirement.
