Filling sonic space w/ just bass & drums..

Since my band lost our guitarist, we've basically become a bass/drum/vocals band. My approach in this band has been completely opposite of the usual bass role. I've been playing through a high gain tube halfstack w/ lots of reverb and attacking chords almost like a guitarist The result is a sound that kinda sounds like a strat guitar being followed by a p-bass.. Anyone else face the tricky roll of filling out an entire band's sound? There are a few (.. rough!) clips on metaljeff.com of the sorta stuff I'm talking about. Sounds rather full for bass and drums IMO and is actually a lot of fun to play.

Reminds me of the band "Clatter". Husband-Wife team, he drums, she plays 12-string bass and sings. Quite nice music, too.

I used to do it all the time. I'd switch up to guitar synth a few times a set, and used a vocal processor to sing bass lines too. Lots of slide bass as well, through a scary stereo rig. I miss it, and look forward to doing some more gigs like that eventually.

Hey! I came across your post whilst looking for inspiration for amp stuff.
I'm in a 2 piece - drums and bass guitar.

Space filling-wise - LOUD, as long as it's loud then you'll be fine!

Sounds good.

I use my Aggie's second channel w/ distortion on a few of my band's old songs that require two guitars. Last year we went from a four piece to a three piece and a few songs required a much dirtier guitar tone behind a clean guitar lead.

Ah right, so you have one amp running clean along side another amp running distorted?

I'm running the overdrive channel of a peavey valve-king all tube amp through 8x12's right now.. Volume is not a problem Viva La Lemmy! We even invited a guitarist over who couldn't cut through at all w/ an all tube marshall halfstack. Felt good
