So after a few years of missed opportunities and funding issues, I finally got to see Gene and Dean in the flesh.

And holy Boognish, what a show it was. They were on top of their game, and the setlist (link below) was A+.

Two and a half hours. Yeah, you heard me.

I have a live DVD. They are remarkably impressive live, quite faithful to the studio versions. They must leave the Scotchguard at home when they hit the road.

Yeah, an acquaintance of mine (he's the bassist for one of my good friends) was at the show, and we came to the conclusion that most people listen to ween initially because of the silliness, but stay because its ridiculously talented silliness.

I've seen Ween 7 or 8 times between 95 and 05 and those boys know how to put on a show!

The first time was on Chocolate and Cheese tour at Trampps in NYC. They played 3.5 hrs. Andrew Wiess was on bass. Between every song Gene would say "Hi. We're Ween. This next song is ____, by Ween." It was the first time I heard Piss up a Rope and I almost died laughing.

Next time was the last night of the country tour at the 9:30 Club in DC. The recording of She F***s Me from Painting the Town Brown was from that show. They were talking about making that show their first live album. Sick show!

I caught them pretty much every time they'd come through DC until I moved and haven't had the opportunity to see them since.

I was a very obsessed fan for a long time, trading bootlegs and chatting about them on the old usenet group alt.music.ween, even occasionally chatting with Deaner on ICR. I've always had a great time at their shows and my only complaint is that I only got to see them do LMLYP once.

Here are a few videos I shot at their shows...
