well, i mean for me...
Yacouba Diarra - ngoni
Jose Simioni - guitar
Dean whatshisname - drums
me - bass
Blondie's
San Francisco
2/6/08
i have played with neither Yacouba or Jose prior to what's on this clip, nor have they ever played together.. [first song on the audio section of my page] http://www.myspace.com/moneydoughonbass
the bass is way out in front (not my doing, mics were stationed in close proximity to my cabinet and i didn't bother EQ'ing or messing with the mix) but this is just some off-the-wall afro-beat madness.
pls check it out... thanks so much. |

I did an album ("At the Court of the Chera Kings" on Waterlilly Acoustics) for a very unusual producer - the guy who produced Ry Cooder's "Meeting by the River".
He records everything absolutely live, to 2 track (2 inch 2 track!!) through a completely tube signal chain, in a cathedral.
He assembled a group of musicians from completely different backgrounds (Hindustani singer, Arab percussion, Dobro, Banjo, African percussion, Jazz violin, Western classical Cello, and a few more), threw us all into a room and started recording.
Everyone was listening and paying attention so hard... it was exhausting.
I got home and told my wife "he's crazy, he thinks he's gonna get an album out of this, and none of us know what we're doing!"
A few weeks later he played the takes, and he did indeed get an album out of it, and it was quite good. Didn't win him another Grammy, but it was a great experience.
