I'll be up in Auburn NY the first weekend of September. Are there any venues/gigs/open mics worth checking out?

I live in Ithaca, which is not too far away from Auburn. If you can make the trek, I would think about it, there is always a lot of music here. What are you looking to hear? a good website to check would be ithacamusic.com as a start. I have never been out in Auburn though, so I am a little biased.

Thanks for the reply Smit. I'm an electric rock fingerstyle player, but open to anything. I come in with my ears open and I blend. I'm visiting relatives and would probably be looking for what's happening round the first weekend of Sept.

I'm originally from Auburn...

Well, Spirit's closed down...there are a few bars here & there with live music. Pick up a Syracuse New Times (weekly entertainment rag) & check the schedule. Bands play at the Falcons Club (Polish Falcons), the UNC (Ukranian National Club), Swifty's (on Perrine St), Parker's (on Genessee), and I think Swaby's (on North/South St) still has bands.

I was just up there in July...

Also, check the Syracuse scene as there are jams @ Shifty's & also the Dinosaur BBQ.

Good luck and let me know how it went.

Auburn is a nice town with an active cultural life, there is frequently good local music there. Check the local listings.

If you like acoustic, Look for Burritt's Cafe
http://burritts.com/default.aspx
in nearby Weedsport (yes, that's Weedsport)

You'll be about an hour from the "1000 Islands" and you could catch the blues fest at Alexandria Bay, through Sept 3

Looks like I'll be there for the weekend of the 5th. Funny My brother, whom I'm visiting? Used to live in Weedsport. He has no nightlife left in him I have to try to pull him out of it. Heh!

Burritts has been attracting a lot of good local talent but they do tend to the acoustic, folk side.

Nice place, coffee house, decent food and the acts tend to come on early. No nightlife conflicts.

And fortunately for you, you'll be there in time for the TOMATO FEST

Ah I know where you might be talking about, that would be Morris' in Skaneateles, great place on Sundays it's usually packed. I used to play there about every month or so, one of the most fun places to play, but it's tiny. If I recall the gig is 6-9 or so.
