Fingertip calluses!

Sign in to disble this ad
Since i started paying bass a few months ago, man did they develop. It didn't bother me while I was playing classical guitar, they were minimal and I could still feel stuff nicely with the tips on my left hand. But now it's like I have a thin layer of wax over my fingers. When i think about it it really bothers me. Do any of you guys who play for much longer have this problem and how much does it affect your daily life? This may sound weird/dumb to some, but I pay attention to these kinds of things.

Yeah I have them. Actually, on both hands from playing finger style. I like them though.

Aside from the playing and all, i think they are somewhat useful.

I have less of a chance of stabbing my finger and it hurting..

But really. Ha. I find they help with hot pans and stuff. I dont feel the extreme temperature on the calluses so it helps there.

Gaah... Yeah, but there's a reason you touch everything with the tips of your fingers. They're clustered with nerve-endings so they're that sensitive... And we're killing it by playing bass.

Haha try playing upright, my entire right pointer figure is a callus. You stop noticing them after a while.

After almost 40 years of bass, I can't read braille as easily/quickly as when I was in high school, but the trade off has definitely been worth it. So, like many topics/issues on TB, it does depend on your perspective.

For some reason, I don't have them on my right hand (yes I play fingerstyle). The fingers on my left hand are callused like a mofo tho. Girls like them, even the ones that go, "ewwwww gross!"

When I used to play electric exclusively I kinda experienced the same thing. It's almost like your skins hard enough not to hurt but it's not callused
