Fitting lyrics to a riff? or Vice-versa

For the music course I'm taking at school I've got to compose and record a few songs(only need to submit one though)

And it has to be a song with vocals, our teacher said that if we were having trouble, just put some cliches together. Since were not marked on our lyrical content, just the "musical" content, and how well it all fits together.

So, for verse 1 and the Chorus, I came up with this:

Standing in the doorway
Reminiscing the light
On the threshold
The peaceful man stands
He feels the haunting loneliness

The ethereal dissonance binds
The ethereal dissonance divides
There is no conformity
Only dissonance

I know it sounds generic, but Its all I can think of for now.

Now the problem is, I can't fit it around my riff. My verse riff is a simple two bar repeated pattern, and the chorus riff will just be some sustained chords(easier to fit words around)

E||----------------------|----------------------|
B||----------------------|----------------------|
G||----------------------|----------------------|
D||--7----5----7---------|--7----5----2---------|
A||--7----5----7---------|--7----5----2---------|
E||--5----3----5------0--|--5----3----0------0--|

The rhythm is Crotchet, Crotchet, Dotted Crotchet, Quaver

(starting with an quaver upbeat on E)

What should I do? Change my lyrics so they fit that riff? if so, how?

Or, change the riff so the lyrics fit it? And if so, How?

Thanks for reading,

Joe

You can stretch vowels. Consonants are what they are. (except for the S at the end of Benny and the Jetsssssss)

See if you can move your vowels and come up with something that works better for you.

here are the basic words to my mini-operetta which are yelled at break-neck speed with very basic accompaniment:

are you the problem child in your family or are you the one with the 8 degrees?
are you the one who is bettin' the ponies or are you the one whos condemming that?
ad lib until mouth is tired and bust into bass solo.

If the lyrics don't fit, either the music ain't right or the lyircs ain't right.

Save 'em both for another time & another song.

For lyrics like that, I will charge you a therapist's rate to listen to it.

Then, I'll tell you what to think of it.
