Footswitch question (4 switchs 2x stereo cables)

Sign in to disble this ad
I was just wondering if there are any pre-made foot switchs that have 4 switches, and connect to the amp via two stereo cables?

These guys switches are to a degree "home made", but look pretty good and cheap (at least in the UK).

Cheers for the link!

Seeing those just put me in the mood to do it myself tho, anyone have any wiring diagrams?

Preferably ones which involve a power supply for adding some LEDs? (for when switching between channels etc)

I think i may have it figured out.

Using a DPDT footswitch, id only use one "side" for the switching (the other side for turning the LED on or off or switching between LEDs)

The actual switch mechanism, is it just switching between cutting off/stopping the signal and sending it to ground?

Does that look ok?

(Im guessing here, as i havent been able to find footswitch diagrams)

A couple of things...

Firstly do you want momentary, or latching? Either is fine fo actually controlling the device (just buy the right kind of switch), but your light circuit won't work for momentary push, as the light will just come on when you're pressing the pedal - if you want a light you need latching.

Secondly - you'll blow up the LED unless you add a resistor. An LED will typically have a maximum current rating of about 20mA. You're using a 9V battery which will push way more current through it, and blow it up. The LED drops about 2V, leaving 7 left over. V=IR, so 7=0.02*R or R=7/0.02=350, so you need to add a resistor, bigger than 350ohm in series with the LED.

You can redo the calculation with the specific value of the componets you have, and check it using: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...Bowden/led.htm

It would be a latching switch.

So is the diagram correct? (bar the lack of resistor).

The LEDs i was looking at are rated at 12V so i thought id be ok!
