I put the case outdoors opened up for a couple of days (daytime only - while nearby), and I used up a lot of Febrize. I then tried a product (forgot it's name) from Lysol - but the smell persists. Any ideas on what I should try next? I wont even put the bass back in the case because I'm afraid the smell will attach to it. |
If you've tried Febreeze and it doesn't knock it out, that means there's something in the lining itself that you'll have to clean out; you can't just neutralize.
Try Woolite carpet cleaner; it should be powerful enough to do the job while gentle enough not to do anything to fluffy case lining (Resolve or Spot Shot may work, but I don't know how the lining would take it).
Now, if the guitar is brand new, what you have there is new case smell; my hybrid case had that and still does. You'll definitely smell it inside cases that are designed to "break in" around the instrument. Treat it like new car smell unless it's really that offensive. That kind of funk will eventually go away with time on its own. Put the case somewhere out of the way and well-ventilated for, oh, about two weeks and it should have died down considerably.
