I took my first nine paychecks as a dishwasher (my first job) in the mid seventies and bought a brand new L6-S. It had a six way pickup selector and came in either black or natural.

Gibson had Carlos Santana promote them in their ads.

Later, Gibson replaced the six way switch with a three way pickup selector.

Also, I believe the pickups were made by Bill Lawrence (no exposed screws on the pickup covers.

Here's what the six way switch does:

1 - both pickups, in phase, wired in parallel
2 - neck pickup only
3 - both pickups, in phase, wired in series
4 - both pickups, out of phase, wired in parallel
5 - bridge pickup only
6 - both pickups, out of phase, wired in series

It definitely a decent guitar. Enjoy it.
