Was digging around in the crawlspace and found my dads old guitar amp. It looked really vintage so I did a little bit of research and it appears to be a fender silverface vibrolux reverb. I am not sure of the exact year , or how I could find that out, (sometime between 1968 and 1982 according to ampwares). I'm very interested to know if anyone knows the approximate value of this amp. I've looked around a bit but haven't been able to find anything. Here's a pic.

It looks like a '70s amp to me.

In that case, you'll be looking at around a grand to $1300. It looks really clean, so I'd say around the $1300 mark assuming all is original.

if you look at the check the date codes on the transformers you can get a better date using the chart here: http://www.fender.com/support/amplifiers.php |

| | | | the transformer number is EIA 606 641, which according to that guide means it was made in 1966, which doesn't make sense since the amp didn't come out until 1968 |

| | | | I see it's plugged in. Hope you're not playing bass through it. Though you could through an ext bass cab bypassing the speakers.

Fender bought parts in large bulk lots and just re-supplied as they got used up. It's quite COMMON for transformers and pots in CBS Fenders to predate the amp's actual manufacture by a few years. |

For example, I have an old Princeton amp with the code "OL". The O is the 15th letter of the alphabet (meaning 1965), and the L is the 12h (meaning December).
This chart, if it exists, will be on the inside of the amp, on one of the sides. |

| | | | Look on the outer edge of the speaker frame, in the back of the amp. Use a flashlight if you need to. You should see a number on the edge, in white or light-colored ink or paint. It will most likely start with a 220, or 465 (220 is the Jensen speaker company, 465 is Oxford). For example, you might see 220-6837, or 465-7153, or something like that.
You can determine what week and year the speaker was made, and the amp was built usually only weeks or a few months after (sometimes a year or more, but usually weeks or months). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
