I was wondering if anyone could reccomend some fretless bass and acoustic guitar duos.
I already know of Michael Manring and Dave Cullen's album "Equilbre", and I really like how the 2 instruments sound together |

I haven't come across any other CD like that. Sorry.

Nice arrangement, fretless bass and acoustic guitar works really great. Get a load of Bruce Cockburn's "Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws" album - fantastic stuff! |

This sounds like some really great stuff. I did a search and listened to some sound samples. The stuff I heard isn't as involved as Michael and David's stuff, but it's really nice.

Looks like they're now more widely available. Anyhow, neither one really reflected the wacky stuff they play live, at least at the show I saw a few years ago. If you ever get a chance to see them play live, go out of your way to do so! |

But we've done a few gigs just as a duo and it works really well, lots of space. Here's a track by the 4 piece version of the band, hope you like it.

After the Gold Rush (Manring's bass as melody)
Menage a Trois (some flute too)
Dirge
Oracle (also flute)
Tomorrow Never Knows
And there's also this utterly brilliant duet by Mr. Manring and Adam Werner on Will Ackerman's "The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit". That tone right there is what fretless should sound like, in my opinion.
You can also Youtube "Michael Manring" to come up with some more duets with Adam Werner and Don Ross. |
