Fretless or EUB?

A buddy and I are always kicking around the idea of doing some "society" tunes, torch songs, jazz standards, etc. His wife is an excellent singer and very versatile. I had been looking into getting an upright but the price jump from CCB to something better is pretty high. The idea of an EUB is pretty cool, maybe using a fretless with tapewounds. There will be a learning curve with both. Not sure which would be better.

Whichever one you end up playing more, IME. Most of my gigs are just like what you're describing. I use my EUB 95% of the time, I find reading much easier when playing it. Before I had it I was a fretless-only player for many many years, and the transition was surprisingly simple. Once you're not playing an AUB I don't think it matters much to most people between fretless BG and EUB. Just my .02...

The AUB would help with the "vibe" a lot more than a fretless or EUB. If it works out, it may be worth the investment in a decent acoustic.

Yep, I think so. I have serious physical issues with my hands that prevent me from doing that, or I would.
