New Orleans band in the shadow of the Meters. I saw them in New Haven Friday night. The only superstar in the band is the drummer. But they have a greeat sound, they're tight as hell, and a lot of fun. They kept me grooving for over two hours and I'm really picky when it comes to jambands.
Anyone else a fan?
Cheers,

Do a search for Stanton on archive.org and you'll find tonnes of freely downloadable concerts with Charlie Hunter, Will Bernard, Russo, Garage A Trois (Hunter obviously) on his own, with Robert Walter etc... worth checking out for sure. Keep an eye out for the this one: http://www.archive.org/details/moore02-05-02.shnf

Indeed. Galactic is a great band. I have been seeing them since (around) 1995. I first heard Coolin' Off as background music playing at a club called the Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI, before a Charlie Hunter show (Natty Dread tour).
I've caught them all over the place since then, and have never missed a tour. Stanton Moore may be their resident superstar, but the whole band is gifted with being able to play right where the groove goes.
Mercurio is a favorite bassist of mine. Love that dialed-off p-bass tone.
Anyone else but me taken a bit by surprise the first time they saw Galactic perform and "The Houseman" came out in one of his suits and matching shoes?
Great band! Just great! |

Rob Mercurio is one of my fave bassists. Since Stanton Moore is Mr. Fill, so Mercurio is the driver - cuing all the changes. P-bass/flats thru an Ampeg SVT/810. Classic! Check out their live stuff like We Love 'Em Tonight. I just saw them (again) this past Friday at the Fillmore in SF. Orgōne opened, and now I'm checking out their stuff too. Makes me want to start a side band that does something funky and give the people a great time.
