I've been trying to write some promo stuff for my band but we're still arguing over how to describe our music. One suggestion I saw online was to submit a track to Garageband.com and have people there review it. Has anyone here used that site? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for ways to get a good idea of how other people would classify our music? Thanks.

Bump. Please, it's causing fights in the band! Are we New Wave of British Heavy Metal? Thrash? Power Metal? Argh!

if labeling yourself into a specific genre is that important to you...
then take a step back...

maybe you should just make music and see what people say, instead of limiting yourself to a label.

The problem is that we did just make music that sounded good to us, and now we don't know how to describe it to people. If we'd started out to fit into a particular genre then we wouldn't have a problem. What I want to know is are there any good ways of finding out what people think we sound like.

We've got some videos up, though none of them have prompted any kind of in-depth review, more like "Yeah this rocks!" kinda stuff. I could post a video on here and ask people to try and sum us up, I don't know how successful that would be.

Wasn't sure if it was appropriate, but I'm going to go for it, thanks!
