It's an instrumental, just acoustic and electric guitars and nothing else. It is quite possibly the most melodic, emotional, sad, and at the same time beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. One of my favourite songs of all time. I can't stress enough how amazing this song is, give it a listen.

I listen to some emo, so as far as depressing songs go, I've got an entire friggin library.

I love Dime's chorus riff with all the artificial harmonics. The Ebow part on the Unforgiven is pretty damn cool as well.
Thought of some more.
Tom Waits - Clap Hands
At The Drive In - Non-zero possibility

(Although some younger people are becoming tainted by years of watching Hollywood schmaltz! )
