GAS Killer!

Sign in to disble this ad
If I could rehearse and gig all day, I would never have GAS! I know I said it a few weeks ago too, but I never GAS when I am actually out playing at rehearsal or a performance. I am always to be busy doing it to be worrying about some other cool bass.

I myself am to busy playing, singing and fronting my band to be jones'n for a new axe. Preforming def keeps GAS to a minimum.

It's all true. Usually, it's about spending too much time right here on TB that get's ya thinking about "other" basses. Fact is, if you're happy with what you've got, and spend your time playing, the thought never crosses the mind.

Ha! you hit it Cheese! My wife told me to find another gig so I'm not wanting more gear. I usually pick a bass for a particular gig and don't play my other basses while in that group. When I find a different gig, I play through my basses to find which ones will best serve the new gig and so on. Looking back on it all, I was happiest with one bass and one amp. I love all the gear I have, but in the end, it's the playing and magic that happens when performing that is the reason I took up the sport in the first place

My new years resolution is to practice -n- play 5 hours for every hour spent lusting over gear.

We'll see how long that lasts...

I'm gonna pick on you, Iota. Having your wife give you a cool bass another cure for GAS. I know that Bongo is sweet, and you honestly love it, but Iialso know that you know the little lady would not be too thrilled if you boxed up the Bongo and sold it either!

Jokes aside, the joy of playing with others puts all GAS in perspective.

precisely, for me...boredom=GAS. When i'm not in a band I'm always looking for something new to spark some new enthusiasm, but nothing I've ever bought is anywhere near as motivating as being in a band, playing shows and recording!

Same for me. If I'm gigging regularly, I focus on keeping my basses in good working order, and I'll sometimes get into a groove with one of them and stick with it awhile. The GAS is kept to a minimum. I'm not gigging much these days, so yeah, I started hitting eBay regularly a few weeks ago. At least I'm thinking about selling some stuff too.

I though I was gas free until last week.

I HAVE been practicing like a madman....until I had the bright idea to pull out my NS EUB. I though practicing on this bass would "help me get better" as it is much harder to play than my standard electric basses as it has just under a 42" scale and a wide fretless neck.

That worked out well. Now I have crazy electric fretless bass GAS.... Now I am looking at $2k+ Rob Allen and other assorted high end fretless electric basses. AAAGGGHHH!

Maybe I seriously need to lock myself in a woodshed for a few months.

A trip to Guitar Center usually leaves me thrilled to come home to basses that are comfortable to me, set-up, tuned, have strings...

+1! I need more free time to play, not more gear.
