GC?!? OMGWTFBBQ!!!!

I can't count the number of times I've gone off on the GC's in RI and southern MA, especially regarding their dismal selection of basses and bass amps.

Well, I'm visitin my family in La Mesa, Ca... and popped in to the local GC with my son to buy him some guitar strings.

Just for laughs I poked my head into the "Rumble Room," expecting the usual disappointment.

I now truly understand that the GC experience is 100% dependent upon which GC you're in. If I'd walked in there with $2k, I would have had to spend the entire afternoon trying to figure out which EBMM 5-string to buy... they had at least eight SR's and Sterlings, most in HH configurations. And for the truly well-heeled they had the 35th anniversary basses in 4- and 5-strings, maple and rosewood boards, multiple pickup options. And all of this cool stuff was hung way up out of reach of the adolescent "metal" bassists, so the condition of each was pristine.

Brings whole new meaning to the expression, "YMMV."

Actually, I'm kinda glad my GC in Warwick RI isn't like this one in La Mesa. I'd be in there every damb day.

The La Mesa location isn't bad. I go there fairly frequently, although I usually just window shop. I try and support the mom and pops around here if able, and will usually order online if I can't.

I know exactly what you meant. The GC by me is awful. They have a couple EBMM Stingrays (only 4 strings, in terrible condition I might add. No 5ers, Sterlings, Bongso, etc.), and otherwise it's all Fenders, Ibanez, and the odd cheap-bass. Everything they carry is that way. Very few "high-end" gear, just low to mid-priced stuff. Not surprised given it's a fairly depressed area.

When I head to the GC in Plymouth Meeting (near Philly) however, it's a different game. Much nicer, higher end basses. Huge selection of stingrays and sterlings, some bongos, and several other higher end instruments. Maybe not top dollar rarities, but still a wide variety of instruments in a variety of prices. Probably twice as many basses as my local GC too.

Between that GC and Chipotle, it's worth the almost 2 hour drive!! (contemplating weekend trip when I get back now...)

Fail.

The Nashville GC is amazing compared to my local ones. But, that makes sense.

Damb, dood, I'm knot dumn! I just figured if I wrote "damn" I'd get one of those friendly pm's from the mods!

I guess "damn" isn't considered profanity. I wish there was a definitive list posted on the site. Of course, it would have to look like this:

*$%*
%$_~
+^!@
%&(

But... but.... MY post was about a GC that's really cool! How is that "bashing?"

My GC is turning into an Ernie Ball/Ibanez room. That's about all that have anymore. The heavy and the light end of the spectrum.

The GC in Columbus has some pretty cool MTD's and stuff but overall it's a big time Ibanez, EB, and Yamaha dealer. I do like the Mark Bass stuff they have. the problem I'm seeing, however, is that they're keeping a lot of basses for a long time and letting anyone play them. It's taking it's toll on some pretty nice stuff. Plus, the strings on those things are incredibly atrocious. How can you get a good feel of what that instrument sounds like with strings as dead as a doornail?

Well you know, since so many malls are going under due to the economy, parents have to find some place to drop their kids off during the day. Guitar Center has become the new age babysitting store. It's no wonder those poor instruments are beat all to crap.

The Memphis one is horrible. The Knoxville one, however, is great!
