GC online orders...poor customer service?

Sign in to disble this ad
A few moths ago, I ordered some DR Nickel Lo-Riders from GuitarCenter.com. I was informed that they were back ordered. Fine enough, I could wait. Another 30 days go by and I get an email saying that the string were still back ordered and that if I did not respond within 14 days the ordered would be cancelled-I did not care to wait any longer, so I did not repond to the email. That was on 8/28.

On 9/17, I recieve an email saying the item was shipped via first class mail. I was surprised that the order was not cancelled, but I decided to just accept the strings when they get shipped to my work(there is a receptionist who recieves the mail).

Until Friday, I have not recieved the strings. I called GC and was told that I could reorder the strings(which were again out of stock) or wait another 30 days to have my money refunded.

I'm very upset with GC right now. I believe they did not send me the strings(the USPS site has NO record of their "tracking number") and may have committed fraud.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Any advice?

Id call up USPS and see. Ive never dealt with them but from my experience tracking numbers dont always work on the websites.

Call them up, give them the tracking number and your address (or wherever it was going).

If they then have no record, i'd be tempted to ask any friendly lawyers about it. Nothing like giving a company like that a swift kick in the nads

Fraud? Lawyers? Over a screwed up, probably automated, set of strings order? Sure it's a pain in the butt, but Holy Mother of Overreactions.

Id be upset too. Someone has my credit card, and just charges it randomly regardless of what they said they were going to do. Itd be one thing if it was an automated error but now you have to wait 30 days to get your money back. Get a manager on the phone and get it straight. They cant hold your money like that for a product you dont even have.

Yo man, ease up on the lawyer talk. I've dealt with customers who come in yelling and screaming and demanding use of the phone to call their lawyers over a simple computer error or a misprinted SKU that was easily fixed by just looking in the back warehouse for the customer. Guys like you make sales a living hell. Just calm down and make life easier for everyone.

Sounds like a lose-lose proposition. You think they may have committed fraud, but they will probably think you just committed libel.
However, they offered you a refund while you suffered no damages but you still slammed them so you could be the only one to lose here.

Good Luck

Inconsiderate

Hold on there, buddy. I understand they're just strings. I never mentioned anything about consulting a lawyer(that was another TB'er).
From what they told me, I should be able to get a refund in a few days.

I just felt that maybe GC online was being a bit shady(no record of shipment,no strings, they didn't cancel the order when they said they would, etc.)

Unless something has changed, I don't believe you can "track" first class mail, only Priority or other premium services.

They offered me a refund after 30 days. I've had an order from MF that never reached me and did not have to wait 30 days(and I was still able to get shipping info). Also, they were supposed to cancel the order because it was-and still is-backordered.

You know, I looked into what others have been saying about their GC online experiences-and it isn't pretty. That said, I really have no problems with GC stores and Musician's Friend(oddly enough!)

Sounds like an automated error more than anything else. Speak to a manager, get your money back. Pretty simple, actually.

From what the customer service rep said, his manager said that I would have to wait 30 days.

I just want to clarify that, if anything, I am just slightly annoyed by the whole thing.

Using "Fraud" my have been a bit of a knee-jerk reaction in hindsight.

I'm just using the forum for a bit of "TB Therapy".

I would just suggest you change the title of your post from "Shipping Fraud" (which is a federal crime) to "Poor Customer Service" (which is your opinion).

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some strings from an online retailer. The strings were to be shipped directly from a warehouse about 5 miles away from my house (I offered to pick them up, but no - another story).

After a week of no strings I called to check on the order. It turns out that UPS picked them up and sent them across the country to Baltimore before putting them back on a train to California. Remember, I pass the distributor's warehouse a couple of times a week to get to the freeway!

The retailer did his job, the distributor did their job, but UPS decided to send my strings on an all expense paid trip around the country.

The distributor sent me a fine XXL sweatshirt for my trouble and inconvenience. Now that's good customer service. It arrived by mail the next day.
