Gear to add to rack...

Sign in to disble this ad
i have a Mesa Titan.

my rack includes:
Korg Tuner
Shure Wireless
Furman PoCo with lights
and 2sp drawer

What gear should i add to the rack?
Recommend me some good things..
If things like compressers, i'd like specifics!
I'd like things to be somewhat affordable.

Are EQ's or "...verbs" etc good for racks? i want something that will make my head sound good. I'm thinking another EQ and a compresser would be nice. Maybe a nice effects piece...pod pro?

Thanks guys!!

How about a microwave oven and a mini-fridge?

Here's what you do...you figure out if your system is lacking anything that you really need, then buy it. What you DON'T do is buy gear just to fill up holes in racks.

The only thing that I would like to add to my rack is a multi effect, but I am not sure yet.. my rack is: preamp and power head, enough for me.

+1. What about vented filler panels?

If it's anything like the pair I own your drawer unit will get old really fast. Mine actually weigh more than my 1000W power amp. Neither are currently in a rack.

Ya, I used to run similar to that, except I used a head, and two wirelesses and a compressor. But I must say I'm enjoying using effects again after not using them live for 10 years. You'd have to ask my band if they're happy about it, though...I get as many dirty looks as thumbs ups...but I really don't care. I think phase shifter and distortion adds a lot to 50's-60's music

Anything with lots of knobs and blinky lights.

Spare no expense when it comes to adding blinking/flashing lights to your rack.

Especially if they're bright blue!

Some Funklogic panels.

Otherwise, +1 to JimmyM.

That Palindrometer may be the coolest piece of rack gear I've seen in a long time, thanks for the link!

They used to offer a lot more panels than that. I heard about that site a few years ago [i think] from Gard.

First, I agree with Jimmy that you need to add gear that you need, and not just fill up rack space; and I also have given up on the idea of a huge rack full of stuff and cable drawer etc. because the weight/bulk is just not worth it.

Second, if you need external processors to make a Mesa Titan sound good, then something is seriously wrong. Are you playing through a Crate 2x10 cab?

There is zero chance that you need another EQ. If your amp had just a 3-band EQ then sure, get something with more control; but look at the EQ controls on your amp! If you're not getting enough EQ shaping there then again, something is wrong.

Now compressors are another story. Not everyone needs/wants one, and I wouldn't buy one just because I felt like it would make my rack complete. However if you do really want some compression, check out the FAQ and reviews linked in my sig.

As far as multifx, that's also "another story". Clearly the Titan doesn't include anything like that. But again you have to actually want a specific feature before buying it and carrying it around makes any sense. If you have played through a reverb and liked what it did for your sound, then by all means stick a nice reverb unit in your rack. Same for chorus, octave, all other effects you might find in a rack unit. If you haven't tried them though, I wouldn't dedicate a rack space to them yet. Check over in the FX forum for a lot more discussion on multis.
