Exactly how hot does it get? If you can comfortably place your hand on the hottest part of your gear, it's fine, if not, it's not fine.

I was being humorous.
Nonetheless, it's not a good idea.

---------------Rule of Thumb---------------

You can decide what it all "means,"
but every power amp manual on the planet
contains these words:

Do not place near any heat sources such as radiators,
heat registers, stoves or other apparatus that produce heat.

Ampeg
DO NOT PLACE NEAR ANY HEAT SOURCE...

SWR
Heat: The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other products that produce heat.

Ashdown
The product should be located away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, or other products that produce heat.

8" should be good to keep it from exploding when its not on, but I'd go a foot when you want to play for extended periods of time. Just don't have it AGAINST the radiator.
