Gear Price Difference. Truly Mind Boggling

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was checkin out Talkbass and saw an add for a music shop in Dublin I went in to the site and had a look. Then I went to the site in germany where I can buy the same stuff from. With €20 euro for delivery and thats the only extra on the price shown. Irish VAT is included on the german site. Apart from delivery the price is as stated.

Fender 60's Jazz bass

Ireland
Germany

Ampeg SVT 3

Ireland
Germany

Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus

Ireland
Germany

And by far the best of the bunch....

Ampeg SVT CL

Ireland

Germany

If you guys really want a kick enter the Irish price for stuff in here then convert euro to dollar and compare to what you pay. WARNING! You must remain seated if you are to preform this task

Why would I bother traveling 3 hours to buy gear in dublin? When I could sit on my arse order it here and save phenomenal amounts of money. You might say to pay the difference to try out stuff but with such a limited stock in one of the countrys biggest shops and the fact musicstore have a returns policy I just can't justify the difference in price. I wonder can the guys in waltons?

And that ladies and gentlemen ends todays lesson in "Why Ireland is affectionatly known as the rip off republic"

i'd say we boycott waltons.shame on them for putting instruments fully knowing that they'll make a huge profit on the sale.

I guess the huge profit is the idea of any business. It's just amazing people are willing to pay their prices. I've got stuff in northern ireland for prices similar to music store. It doesn't always have to be mail order for value

Is anyone living here really surprised that we are dearer than most of europe ? I was looking around Dublin for a good quality hard case for my bass. The one I liked was 135 euros ($103). I got a similar/better one through the internet from Germany for 75 euros ($57 approx)........ including the cost of shipping.

Thats most certainly true. But as far as I can I won't buy gear in ireland. Unless the price is competitive. I know a guy who took a flight to london bought a bass flew back and saved a few hundred quid. It would be worth doing that for the increased selection alone. Not to mention you can get those flights for a cent too. You could definitely come back with something you know you really like and want as oppposed to because thats all there is at the store.

Veeeeerrrry true !! I dont like to be seen as putting down my own country but I'm just saying it as I see it. The dear prices would be more bearable if we had more of a selection. Why cant we have a huge warehouse-type shop selling a wide selection of basses and accessories. Even with bass strings most shops here stock about five different brands.
