It seems that another audio pioneer has passed. Gene Czerwinski, founder of Cerwin-Vega, passed away last Friday.
While he may not have had large direct influence on the bass playing community, his indirect influence is felt every day. Super efficient drivers, folded horn cabinets with earth-shaking output and super high-powered amps ahead of the curve are all Gene's trademarks.
How many of you have witnessed his mind-boggling demonstrations of his amazing products? Plugging an 18" subwoofer driver DIRECTLY into the AC line (The loudest hum EVER), actually shaking a chandelier down from the ceiling in the Hilton demo room playing the ending 20 Hz synth bars of "O Lucky Man" at 140 dB to demo his "Earthquake" horns, his demos of digital recording of trains played back at scary levels using 24" Stroker Subs (The best bass ever).
His motto was "Loud is Beautiful, if it's Clean" and he did a lot to advance that. A very interesting, kind and generous man as well as a brilliant engineer, we will miss him.
RIP, Gene
