Lightbulb Genre's Anyone? Hypothetical question.

If you HAD to pick one Genre of music only, and only one, (literally if you want to bed tonight, woke up in the morning and could only play one single genre of music) what would it be?

Most likely Jazz for me.

Jazz for me, because it encompasses so many other styles.

Rock, because you can fit alot of types of music under that umbrella (metal, fusion, punk, R+B, etc.).

Gospel. That would be assuming that I would also be given the ability to play said genre.

I also want to say that IMO the term 'fusion' is totally vague. While most of us here know what is generally meant by 'fusion'(in a musical contexet), the fact is if you don't specify what components are being fused together then it technically doesn't mean squat. Same goes for 'alternative.' Alternative to what? Rant/derail over...

Would picking one genre also give one the ability to play very competantly in that genre? If so, I'd pick old school swing jazz.

I would pick: [i]AURAL[i] music (as opposed to "Music of the Spheres", "Chin music", or Mugsy "Playin' ya a tune on the Stradivarius"...)

WOOHOO!!!! Loophole!... I GET ALL THE GIGS!

Jazz, you can take pretty much any musical style and find the roots in jazz.

I'm sorry, but I can't pick just ONE genre . . . that's one of the things I like so much about the band I play in. Our fans have accepted the fact that we use many different styles (genres) of music in our songs . . . blues, funk, reggae/ska, rockabilly, rock'n roll, punk, metal, hard rock, rhythm and blues, latin rhythms (tumbao, son, huapango, etc) and MORE . . .

FWIW, the other bands that often share the bill with us are ALL stuck in one genre or another . . .

BORING!
