Getting back to playing bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in college now and I haven't played for almost two years. I discontinued lessons because I just got too busy with things going on. I'm considering going back to playing.

The problem is, I was never really any good even when I was taking lessons, and I didn't really nail the fundamentals such as theory and playing techniques. I have a book at home, but it's just no fun trying to learn from it; I have tried a few times in the past only to get frustrated and stop playing.

Any suggestions or tips to get back into bass?

Thanks

You don't have to know theory to be a bassist. Just do what keeps you motivated and in to playing. Maybe figure out the bass lines from some of your favorite bands instead. That's not a bad way to learn.

Don't stop because you hate to practice "fun-duh-mentals" learn the songs the best you can BE ON THE BEAT AND ON KEY!!! thats what I do. if someone says "hey you suck and bass" say " ya, but I love playin!!" I quit trying to be like so-and-so or whatever, I admire those who know "why" they play what they play, but I just enjoy playing and when it sounds right!!!

Like nissan says "enjoy the ride!"
