Getting Boxes- free sources?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,

Decided to hang it up after 25 years of playing so I am going to sell my Acacia Custom 4, as well as a bunch of rack gear. Before I put this stuff up for sale, I need to source some boxes (I haven't sold a bass in a decade or so nothing is lying around). This stuff just isn't gear I can stuff in a Priority Mail box and ship.

Does your local GC or Sam Ash allow you to dumpster dive and grab them?

Thanks!

They'll get you one if they have any in the back room too. Usually it's best to call first. I've done that, and I've also bought boxes from box companies. They're usually only about $2.50 a box.

I have never found an office supply store that sells boxes large enough to ship a bass in a hardcase. I personally just order them from ULine now- buy 5 at a time for $30 total and you're set for a year or more.

UPS charges a stink load for their boxes.

Calling GC and asking sounds like a great bet. They may even have you come in on a certain day that they know they're getting deliveries.

My local GC gets shipments on Wednesdays. I simply ask for one of the many boxes laying around. They never have a problem with it.

Even if it's not a GC, most music stores if they get a bass will give you a box. Best buy gets them too in some areas now so you could ask there too.

I usually check out the local music stores. The jackass salesman at the local GC just told me that "it came from above" they're no longer allowed to give out old boxes, though. I'm assuming he was simply making this up in an attempt to be lazy, however.
