Getting a new guitar!?

Sign in to disble this ad
My parents want to get me something for my birthday, but I don't really want a new bass (well one that in their price range). And right now I have a squier bullet strat at my moms, and an Ibanez gio at my dads. Both are rather crappy. So I figured I'd get a guitar! ( dont kill me).

So I've been thinking, what do my favorite guitarists use? (Player-guitar-song)
Bradley Nowell/Rome Ramirez-strat-wrong way
Billy Joe (pre american idiot)-strat-welcome to paradise
David Gilmour-Strat-comfortably numb
Guys from 'The Strokes'- strat/tele/gibson es-under cover of darkness
(^I really can't remember their names, and I'm too lazy to google it)

Only thing is... I don't like strats, I like teles though.

So I wanna get a non-strat guitar (preferably a tele) for under $300 that will be able to nail all these tones.
Thanks.

The Nashville Tele has three pickups. You can pull tele and certain strat sounds out of it. You might be able to find one used in the $300 - $400 range.

Vintage vibe Squier tele, 3 color sunburst , bound body. Under 300 out the door including tax. Best guitar value available new at the moment. Or buy used.

You say you don't like strats, is that how they look or how they play? If it is how they play, check out some G&L tributes, or any old G&L guitar, there was a beautiful one in the classifieds a few weeks ago. I would have bought it if I had the money.

I don't mind the looks, just how they play.

And I went to GC today. I found exactly what I want. A blacktop Jazzmaster HS. It had everything I wanted but the neck felt too thick, and the action/string spacing felt weird. If I could have that sound in the CV burst w/ binding tele I played (best feeling guitar they had!), I'd be a happy man.
