I've had 2 basses on CL for over 2 MONTHES now and haven't had one person even come and look at them. Only a a few people that say they want to, then never respond.

Anyone else having this problem? Maybe its the bad economy?

Same thing going on with me. I have a Yamaha RBX-775 that I`ve been trying to get rid of for about two months now and no one has showed any interest. I also have a Gio Ibanez that no one seems to want either.

Yup. trying to sell an amp, only got one dude reacting to the ad, and he didn't show up. I guess people just don't spend as much on a "hobby" than they used too.

On the other hand, the crisis ought to bring us some damn fine blues musicians in a few years time

I've been trying to sell my Yamaha rbx260 for a good 3 months now. It's a decent entry level bass. I even put a qp in the dang thing. I think in this town if you want to sell something it must say Fender on it.
Maybe I'll just hang on to it file the nut and string it up BEAD

I've never seen one of your CL ads, but I've looked through my local CL many times. Most of the CL ads I've seen have been amateurish at best; consistently disappointing.

You may want to give your advertisement a long, hard, look, just to make sure that the quality of your ad has nothing to do with your failure to sell.

Don't mean to sound harsh, and hope you make a sale real soon.

This is why I've never used Craigslist. You should instead pay for a supporting membership and sell them here

EDIT
Dang, Harry and I are on the ball with this!

I have tried to sell other stuff on CL and have had people say they would come and look at it and never show up. No phone call, no email, no text. I'll never sell anything again on CL.

I think it depends on the bass and the price. In the past year I've sold three basses between $1000 and $1200 (CND). The first I sold the day I posted the add, the second two I sold within a week of posting. Having said that, I posted a bass for $3100 a couple of weeks ago and have heard nothing. Good - I changed my mind and don't want to sell it anymore.

If something doesn't doesn't sell it's because of one or both of two things.

1. It's not priced right for the market.

2. The buyer doesn't have confidence in what's being sold.

Reduce your price, or spend $20 and become a contributing member and sell it here. However, if selling here you're still going to have to price it very competitively because you're dealing with a VERY educated buying clientele.

But essentially it comes down to "Price it right and ANYTHING will sell."

Original Poster could help by spending 5 minutes and filling out his profile fully here on talkbass so people can get an idea where he's at location, interest, and gear wise. It really helps.

I listed my Fender amp and it did not sell until I lowered the price to crazy low. I listed my bass and put the price so low I would buy it from myself for that price and haven't gotten a call or e mail, been listed for 3 weeks. I'll wait a few weeks when people start getting there tax returns

You serious?? I've tried making my ads look nice and put some thought into them but it's a waste of time. I've had just as good of luck with the simple "so and so bass, good condition, includes case and strap, email or call if interested ect..." People will ask you everything again even if you list it all in the ad, heck, I get people asking "how much did you want again?" all the time, but that could be their attempt to get a lower price.

Maybe only old people like me are so picky.

When an ad shows conspicuous attention to detail, I have an expectation that the owner has been equally fastidious with the gear he's selling. OTOH, if an ad seems careless, haphazard, poorly written, etc., my expectations of the seller decline markedly, and I expect the gear they're selling to have been set up and maintained carelessly, haphazardly.

By the same token, when I used to buy a lot of stuff from Ebay, I'd review both the ad and the Ebay seller ratings very carefully; too many negatives and I wouldn't consider bidding, even if the gear itself was desirable.

i filp my stuff locally all the time but i dont ask a fortune (but i usually make some profit..im good at sniffing out deals) and i live in a town that basically has worse gear than your average BFE music go round and my stuff is usually quality. my stuff never goes more than a week. i say depends on price/rarity and area

I ignore ads with too much bad spelling and excessive text shorthand. If they are too lazy to make a decent ad with real words then I figure they take too many shortcuts in other areas...some of which may include the general care and maintenance of any gear they might own.

+1! I've sold every piece of gear I've ever listed on here except an MTD 535 and a Pedulla Pentabuzz...I sold both of those locally!

I use Kijiji in my city. CL isn't as big here. I actually sold a Ric on Kijiji a couple of weeks ago but it took a month to sell.

My impression is that on Kijiji and CL people are looking for deals and cheap prices. I know I am. I think if you want to get a sell price closer to what the item might really be worth (bass related of course) your best bet is selling in the TB classifieds.

Having said all that I think the economy does have something to do with slow sales. I was surprised that I didn't sell my Ric through TB. I had a couple of offers but nothing as good as what I got locally. The plus also being no shipping involved.

Yeah, I have a great amp for sale that isn't generating any interest at all - even on TB.

Spend the $20 buck and put it on the biggest bass site in the world -that ought to work. If it doesnt then some thing is wrong- and yes the economy is bad .

I hate the ads that don't post a picture. C'mon! Pretty much everyone has a digital camera now-a-days.

I was going to post a drum set of mine, but I decided I'd get every moron in town coming in to beat the crap out of them for a half an hour then they'd shrug and turn their empty pockets inside out. I'll wait on the economy.

KO
