GIBSON Guitars...Complete idiots?

Sign in to disble this ad
...Or at least kings of irony?

Welcome to the new Gibson Jimi Hendrix guitar:

'What if the world's greatest guitarist was still alive today, what guitar would he want to play?'

Apparently the answer is still a Stratocaster...but one made by Gibson?

http://www.guitarnoize.com/blog/comm...endrix-guitar/

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guita...a-strat-220867

I guess they don't get the irony of doing this after suing PRS for trademark infringement for the single cut?

Very sad when they could have made a killer signature Flying V.

The bridge coil in a reverse slant is interesting though, not seen a Strat with that before(besides flipped ones like Jimi's, of course).

While this is true, including the ill-produced Fender Hendrix Strat which had the pickup reversed...but it doesn't make up for the fact that Gibson basically sold out all its integrity to make a Fender Stratocaster copy.

Oh, not disputing that, and from a purely sensible point, why would I buy a Fender off of Gibson, I think Fender have a better idea of how to make Strats..... just like the reversed pickup.

Seriously, Gibson, recent business decisions have all sucked, espcially trying to distribute Europe themselves, cutting out the middleman, and demanding each shop that wants to stock Gibson buys like +50,000€ woth of Guitars.....

Oh, they do that in the US too. I know more than a few small shops that had to stop carrying Gibson due to their quotas. The only places that can afford to carry them are either REALLY big established shops or chains. Its intentional, of course. Fewer shops to deal with, less reps and sales staff.

Indeed, but while its less trouble for them(reps etc.), its also less sales, well here anyway, as there's gonna be like 4 shops in the country with them, and thats being generous.

Just my opinion but the "Big 2" both are sell-outs and only re-hash versions of their own designs over and over, and then... they start building re-hashed versions of the other one's designs. Sorry, I just wish they'd come up with something new once in a while that's worth the $ they charge. I mean, come on, they are selling 50+ year old technology! But... I guess I can't blame them, we all buy it! AND THEN we try to make them even more "Vintage"!

Sorry, I guess someone wound me up. I'll quit ranting now!

They've made right handed signature models of left handed players guitars before and included the flipped bridge p'up.

I think that the Jimi Hendrix Sig and the Dick Dale Sig both had it. And the Jimi Sig had the flipped headstock, too. .

I also haven't seen either in a long time. They've probably been discontinued except from the Custom Shop. Gibson didn't just copy a Strat. They copied a failed model of the Strat

I fid myself totally indifferent. I'll bet that at Gibson prices, they'll find out that most of the buying public is indifferent, too.

Go buy a Fender.

It comes in a beginner package with amp and fuzz box for $400.

Is that a cheesy JH decal on the pickguard?

Perhaps Gibson will do for Hendrix what they did for Steinberger and Tobias

This is just totally beyond belief. Put this whole sorry story in a movie script and nobody would ever, ever believe it.

Gibson (GIBSON!!! For crying out loud!) sue PRS, then make a COPY of a FENDER (!!) Strat, with a pic of Hendrix playing a Fender on the box, then sell it as "Authentic Hendrix". You just could NOT make this stuff up.

Who on Earth made this stupid business decision and how were they so dim-witted that they failed to understand the damage to this once great company's reputation that would inevitably result? I just don't get it. My God, this is stooping really, really low.

Gibson has only done one thing right in the last 10 years. They finally listened to the people and put a floyd rose on the lespaul. I guess they were sick of ESP taking away all the metal players. Not to mention that the new lespaul with Floydrose is also sporting a neck thru design. I only hope that this will lead to what I have always wanted.... a PRS with a double locking trem. Although an american Jackson Soloist served me well for many years.

Epiphone has been making strat copies for years. They've done P-basses as well. And doesn't Gibson own Kramer?

I agree this is lame, but nothing new.

Did Gibson ever try to sue Guild or ESP over the SG shape?

As bad as it sounds... I hope Fender does something about this. This is utterly disgusting and a tarnish(in my mind at least) to a great guitarist. Jimi deserves better than this.

i still dont get how gibson could sue PRS. the difference is clear. at this point, the idea of suing over a classic body style is pointless. everyone knows what its SUPPOSED to be.

gibson has clearly lost their marbles. as stated.. fender couldnt get this idea to sell. didnt gibson have a hendrix SG at some point? maybe it was just a drawing.. but it looked pretty sweet.

So they can profit off a dead man and someone else's design... but i can't go out and buy a brand new RD Artist which was original and sounded amazing...

**** you Gibson.

Wow.

So, is Fender going to be releasing their own version of a Les Paul sometime soon? "But wait, Les Paul REALLY gave the design to us..."
