GIBSON ROBOT guitar

Read a review about the Gibson Robot guitar.

I guess Fender has something like it as well?

Anyway I think it's a cool idea and certainly the reviews are pretty good on it.

Some might think tuning is part of the craft, but I tell you I would have bought one for the guitarist in an old band I was in. He had a tin ear and was always out of tune.

It would be cool on a bass to do a Michael Manring thing

I think its pretty smart, and was amazed at the price, thought gibson would have used it as an excuse to ramp up the price alot.

I could see it being great for in a studio.

Good idea, but from what ive heard terrible implementation. Theyve had something like this for a while, jimmy page endorsed it. It was this gigantic bridge that would tune pretty instantly, but it was like a $2500 retrofit for a guitar.

The fender one that I think your talking about doesnt physically tune the guitar, it just has alternate tunings built into some sort of preamp. It doesnt actually do anything to the strings.

Ive heard the gibson one is kinda slow. The only advantage I can see is so you could do like the bridge and chorus in different tunings. If its not pretty instant its useless to me, and another thing to break.

The only positive I see about the Gibson Robot guitar is the price (just about the same as a standard Les Paul). Other than that, I could care less about it.

I guess this is useful if you're in a cover band and don't want to bring 5 guitars/retune every other song. My teacher was amazed when I told him about the hipshot drop tuner because, this would make his day.
