Try not to get too wasted and make sure there's a random girl around for you to make out with at midnight.

Wait, is the gig on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day?

Don't expect a huge crowd but some people might go out somewhere. Hey, it's a gig. There is only one place in my town having a band that day but it is also a sports bar and there are college football games on that day. None of the other clubs are having any entertainment.

I talked a club into having my band play on Christmas Day back in the early 80s and that was unheard of at the time. We ended up with over 400 people on Christmas Day.

I have shows on 12/31 and 1/1 this year. I think it'll be a bit more hoppin' than usual on 1/1 since it's a Saturday... but yeah, i expect the NYE gig will be much busier (already 50 people have bought tickets from what i understand (it's a small club)).

I told this story in another similar thread. A band I was in played the night of 1/1 several years back. There was very little by way of audience to begin with, and it just so happened Ohio State was playing their bowl game that night, so we weren't even allowed to go on or set up until the game was over (the big screen projection TV was stuck in the middle of the stage). Of course, the game went into overtime, and didn't end until just after midnight.

New Year's Day/Night gigs = miserable

Saw 1/1 and automatically thought NYE instead of NYD.

Not sure what to expect on NYD... Maybe a lot of hungover head-bobbers?

I hope our gig is not a described above....I am suspicious of this date since we just got it today...maybe a last minute cancellation..I have played the venue before so there is a slight chance there will be a crowd.

I hope not too. I've just been in quite a few crappy bands that got offered a lot of the scrap gigs and off-nights (like July 4, the day after Thanksgiving, etc.) It's just one of those nights that you don't see a lot of people going out. If this bar draws a regular crowd, I guess it shouldn't be that bad.

I will run with T Most's advice and just play it like any other gig...

Thanks and enjoy the holidays.
