Gig Bag Essentials

Sign in to disble this ad
I have slowly, but surely found lots of stuff that I consider 'good to have with me' that I stuff in my duffel.

I am curious - What's in YOUR gig bag?

BTW, by 'gig bag' I mean either your gig bag or the duffel/suitcase/backpack that you bring to every gig that contains stuff you consider necessary.

Mine has:
1. Extra strings
2. Tools/Multi-tool (swiss army knife, screwdrivers, needle-nose)
3. Electrical and Duct tape
4. Extra strap
5. Cords, cords, cords (Patch, speaker, power, extension, powerstrip)
6. Toiletries (deoderant, cologne, toothpaste)
7. Small flashlight
8. Digital camera
9. Notebooks, pens and highlighters (multiple colors)
10. Small, clamp-on reading light
11. Pepper spray (we play in some pretty questionable regions...)
12. Batteries - 9v, AA, AAA
13. Mints/Gum
14. Portable CD player

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Whachu got?

You fit all that in your gig bag? I have to split my stuff between my gig bag and a couple of laptop-style bags. I carry most of the above, and add:

-Spare smokes, lighter, matches, etc
-Soldering Iron, spare wire, 28 to 12 guage, solder, spare pots, etc
-Preamp tubes--I sell them to desperate guitarists at $25 occasionally when another band's guitarist blows one.
-Multi-meter--I'm an electrician, and I like testing a club's power when given time.

Believe it or not, the soldering iron sees regular usage. It's amazing how many people will fork over dough for some minor problem they've lived with for years, like a scratchy pot or an iffy jack, an hour before show time

No, no, no... LOL - in a rather normal-sized duffel/gym bag.

THAT is your entrepreneurial tip 'o' the day! I love it! As a matter of fact before a gig last summer the light man at our show helped me out with his handy-dandy soldering skills! And I testify, I was VERY HAPPY he did! Saved my arse! To this day, I am grateful!
