Which gig bag to get?

Sign in to disble this ad
Since I'll be going up to college I wanted to get a gig bag/soft case for its transportability, but I want something that will protect my bass very well and hopefully last for the full 3 years of college.

I have read on various threads that incase is supposed to be the elite, but because of its price, I was wondering if there is anything else that is cheaper but offers the same protection. I was looking at Access bags as well. And of course there is always the cheapo stuff on Musicians Friend.

Any input would be very helpful, I am simply looking for something to carry one bass, not one of the double gig bags.

I have the Access Stage 5. I bought it for $99 from my local dealer. It is, by far, the best gig bag I have ever used for the price. Plenty of padding and PVC inserts, adjustable neck support, plenty of pockets, great backpack system. Better quality than the Body Glove. I haven't seen a Incase bag, so I can't compare.

I'va always had good luck with Levy's bags.

I've got a CM19L that works wonderfully. Of course, the leather ones would be great too.

And you might try a Pro-Tec type. Those work pretty well also. If they're good enough for MTD and Mike Lull, they'll probably work for you too!

I just bought one of Carvin's "new" bass bags. It's well made and quite stiff for a soft bag. For the price, you can't go wrong.

I bought a Road Runner gig bag from GC for $40. It's heavily padded and has tons of storage.

I have one of those, but in a matter of a few months it started falling apart. The carry handle is seperating from the body of the bag, and it is splitting at the seams.

Well a local dealer (who isn't so local, about 20 miles away) said that they could order the Access gig bag I wanted, and ship it to me, for $130. That is about $100 cheaper than the Incase gig bag, and for arguably a very similar product.

Then there's the Roadrunner gig bags which I've heard mixed opinions about so I'm a bit wary to even consider it. Odds are if I don't find anything else in the next week I am going to get the Access one.

yeah my guitarist bought one of the roadrunners...two weeks...same thing happened, the handle separated from the body then the rest of it started falling apart.

the access bag looks really nice. Ive had a Ritter bag for 5 years now and its just starting to show signs of needing replacement, but this is after 3 years of marching band and 2 years of college and being used ALOT

thats the one I have although I might be getting this one
in the near future

I don't know how much they cost but check out RITTER'S BASS BAG. Very strong and durable.

My Access Stage 5 was $100 plus tax in my local shop. I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

If you want a gigbag that's practically bullet-proof, I'd go with Undercover.

Ritter's are also a cheaper alternative for a quality rugged bag.

Warwick Rockbags are very nice for the price. I have two of them, a single and a double. I've never had any problems with protection for my basses when using them. I bought the double on ebay for $50 brand new. I've seen singles go for $35.

Where did you buy your Undercover bag? Am I going to have to hunt for a local dealer for those too or can I order it online somewhere? Thanks.

Bass Central has them, if I'm not mistaken.
