Gig bag poll!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, gals, and anyone in between. I'm going to be starting at
Berklee this spring and I need a new gig bag for my time there. I'm
stuck between getting the iGIG G515 and the Mono M80 bag. I like the
looks and the waterproof features of the Mono bag but I like the
storage space and the extra padding of the iGIG.

So please leave any opinions, experiences, pro or cons that you have
or know about these bags. Thanks a lot!

Here's some pix of them:

What you need is a Warwick Rockbag.

Well, obviously the iGig comes with a Fodera.

What else do you want?

I say iGig. If youre worried about getting your bass wet, dont:
Walk in the rain.
Swim.
Fall in a pond.

Problem solved.

Ive had the Mono for about a year, the thing seems rock solid. No complaints here, Ive been happy as can be.

LOL no I've owned a few of them and they seem to fall apart at the
seams. These two bags have great features too. I also wouldn't want to
carry an Fbass in a Warwick bag.

If you're bringing your bass back and forth to college, you'll end up in the rain at least a few times. Bound to happen. Certainly did with me. It's where I learned that a trash bag makes a decent amp cover when it's wet out.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. iGIG makes one that comes with a rain
jacket but it only comes in black suede, which I don't like.

The Mono bag says "wear it in the shower" so I think it's pretty much water proof.

I have a Mono double, and it's definitely waterproof. I'd say get the iGig if you need a lot of storage space and need to carry your amp in your gig bag rather than in a separate bag, and get the Mono if you don't. The Mono is very sleek- the downside of that is not much storage, and the upside is that it takes up less space and is easier to manage.

Which one weighs less? The iGig is a bit on the heavy side and walking around Boston and to class and around the school and to lunch and back to class and then home, the weight will get to you eventually. Get the one that weighs the least.

Yeah that's my predicament I guess. I don't know how much storage I'll need. I suppose I
could just buy the double Mono bag and use one side for storage until I need to travel
with two basses.

Yeah I didn't think of that.

So I've decided to go with the Mono bag in black. I think I might save up another hundred
and get the double case though. That way I will have ample space and when I start
working in the studio I'll have space for two different basses.

Thanks guys. You've been a big help with my decision.

FWIW, the double bag IS really light, so the extra weight won't be much when not carrying a second bass.

Yeah the double bag is just a little heavier than the single iGIG bag according to their websites.

I've been totally spoiled on the Mooradian bag made in
Boston. Good protection, more storage than any bag other
than the igig, lighter weight than other "good quaility" bags,
made to last for many years. I know they are very water
resistant, not sure about waterproof. I have friends who still
have the same Mooradian bag for upright bass after 18 years.
I love my Mooradian bag.
When I looked at the igig bags, they were well made with tons
of storage and great straps for carrying. My only issue was
that the bag was almost as heavy empty as my Mooradian
with a bass in it.
The Mono bag was ok. It looks cool but not much storage.
Very light weight.

Just looked them up. I like that they make custom bags for amps and stuff. They look really light too. Thanks for the info!
