Gig Bag (for stuff, not a bass)

Sign in to disble this ad
What does everyone use to carry and keep all the misc stuff that goes to gigs and rehearsals with you? I have been using a small rolling carry-on sized bag, but it is not easy to keep organized, it always seems to end up like I just tossed everything inside. The contents usually include a small amp (now a Shuttle 9) strings, gaffer tape, cables, tuner, cable tester, multi-meter, batteries, stand etc.
It is about shot and I am looking for ideas for a better replacement.

I get my gear bags at thrift shops, you know, Salvation Army, Goodwill etc.

I use a small padded bongo bag for all my cables, pedals, etc... Has a nice shoulder strap and both a zipper and 2 clips to secure it.

The absolute best bag that I have ever used is a Land's End Diaper bag that a friend gave me when my twins were born. It has lotsa space and a shoulder strap.

I use a cheap plastic footlocker that I bought at Lowes. I stow my cables, adaptors, effects, power strips, etc. in cast-off CPAP carry bags and stack 'em in. Even has room for my disassembled guitar stand.

Mono producer's bag is great also. I carry micro amp, cables, monster power strip and small korg tuner.

I just use a duffle bag. Buy cable ties and your problems will be solved. The velcro ones are nice for quick assembly/disassembly.

I use one of these when I need a bag. Normally I just fit my cables and straps in my Pedaltrain hard case with my board..

I use a small "flight attendant" type bag. It's got a lot of pockets, wheels and a collapsible handle. It was $25 at a sports store.

Check out your local big box hardware store. They all have a good selection of heavy duty tool bags, and most of them come with numerous pockets, inside and out.

I don't bring anything with me to gigs except for my instrument, a tuner, and a cable. My gig amp is at my trumpet player's house (where we practice and keep the PA and all other equipment).
However, our singer has a big, old, leather satchel that he keeps extra cables and whatnot in. It looks like something out of Indiana Jones.

My save-the-gig bag is either a camera or gun accessory bag; black canvas, the size of a large purse & PACKED w/instrument, speaker & extension cords, adapters, batteries, bandaids, neosporin, aspirin, ductape, picks, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, breath mints, fingernail clippers(& file), pens, pencils, correction fluid, cough drops, power supplies, a pedal or two & more. I'll throw it over my shoulder, GK-700 & guitar stand in one hand, Flite 2x10(34 lb)in the other, bass in gig bag on back. One-trip load-in.

I've got a nice small Gator bag that came with a cheapo mixer. Very well padded, about 10"x10 space with a couple pockets on the outside. Works well for my loop station or drum machine with cables in the outer pouches.

my bass case sometimes will carry a fake book or tuner and cables.. amp bag usually has speaker cables, amps power cable, and the instrument cables...

most often, all of that goes in my pedalboard.

MONO....PERIOD! I got a MONO DJ bag and I have everything in that and a MONO double bag and I am set! My amp, DI, cables and everything are right there. I carry my double over my back, the MONO bag on my shoulder, and my 210 cab in my left hand. ONE TRIP! setup in about 5 minutes and I am good to go...

www.monocases.com I think it is...

Peace,

T

This bag on Ebay got my attention - I may get one. The price is right.

I like to carry spare speaker and guitar cables, batteries, AC cables, and a fairly complete tool kit, as well as gaffer's tape, super glue, Johnson & Johnson waterproof tape for fingers (just in case), and whatever else moves me.

Same price at Musicians Friend, but in two colors:

Yes! I've used one of those too. The only drawback is that it isn't padded.
