The GIGANTOUR 2006 Thread!

Post your experiences if you've gone to one of the shows on this year's tour!

---------------------------------------

I went to the second show on the tour (9/8/06), in Oakland, CA, and it was a blast! Granted, I wasn't really fond of half of the bands (the incomprehensible screaming of Lamb of God, for example, isn't my cup of tea), but everyone put on an awesome performance, inspiring some headbanging even if the band wasn't your favorite!

Overkill was a second-stage band, but they were definitely one of the best bands of the night. They definitely know how to work up a crowd! Opeth was great as well, and Arch Enemy surprised me - I didn't realize the vocalist was a female!

I was able to meet the members of Megadeth backstage, too, which was an awesome experience. I complimented Dave's work over the past three decades, and James LoMenzo shook my hand. I wonder if that's the reason I can now fret notes better?

Megadeth did a much better job this year than last year, IMO. Everyone was energetic and wild! The new song, "Washington's Next", is reminiscent of the older Megadeth albums, which is a huge plus. The best moments of their segment of the show would have to be their renditions of "Set the World Afire" (complete with pyrotechnics galore), "Peace Sells", and "Holy Wars... the Punishment Due".

Dave Mustaine finished off "Holy Wars" with something I didn't expect: he smashed one of his signature ESP DV8 guitars onstage, pounding it over and over into the ground until there was nothing left to break!

Overall, it was a great show, and I'll definitely go again next year!

I was at that show too. I thought Megadeth sound really good, even though Dave's vocals were kind of hit an miss on some songs.

That new song was great. It's got me excited for their new album. I didn't really like The System Has Failed but if 'Washington's Next' is any indicator of what the new album is going to be like I will definatley be buying it.

I missed Arch Enemy but I've seen them before, the main reason I went to this show was to see Opeth and they were great. They only played five songs but they were good ones.

Oh yeah that part was great. I haven't seen anyone smash a guitar in a while, but he didn't just smash that guitar. He completley destroyed it. That was cool!

Having been to a Nine Inch Nails concert, seeing that V destroyed was quite a shock. Trent Reznor has plenty of cheap guitars that he uses for smashing; I don't know if the same can be said for Dave, though, and the DV8 isn't cheap...

...unless he was smashing one of the cheaper versions, like a DV-200? I could've sworn I saw an "ESP" logo on the headstock, though.

Snap, that's happening already?!?! Well, I love Opeth to death, so I need to check this out.

Megadeth are awesome but frankly it's just Dave solo now, and I can't dig on that. I miss Ellefson.

I'm pretty sure it was one of his good ones, I mean, he did play Holy Wars on it. It's not like he just came out and smashed it right away.

if you had to put the new megadeth song on one of their older cd's which one do you think it would fit with best?

Nope, Arch Enemy didn't.

I'd say... the new Megadeth song sounds like a blend of "Peace Sells" stuff and "Cryptic Writings" stuff.

Problem is, I can't remember it all too well at this point.

I should've tried to sneak in a tape recorder

Reviving a dying thread here...

Check out this video of Megadeth performing the new song "Washington's Next" at the Toronto show!

And this one's from Tampa:

Now you guys can hear it for yourself.

Beats the Metallica "new songs" by a long shot!
